Food for Foodies is always one of our most popular posts, but last Market’s review of the craft beer scene around the Triad got quite the response as well.
So this time around, we are serving up some of the best places to grab a more advanced cocktail in and around High Point during Market.
Don't worry - in the coming weeks we'll also share the best spots to find a libation at Market (pepper-infused vodka bloody marys at Howard Elliott anyone?!), but in the meantime, travel with us around the triad to discover some great spots to enjoy a cocktail or two.
And just so you know, alternate headlines for this post under consideration were: “800-Thread Count Sheets to the Wind”, “Where to Score the Best Hootch ”, and for those of you from Jersey, “Spirits in the Night (and Day)”.
WiFi Wine Bar & Shoppe: We’re going to ease in with wine since this place is local, has a great vibe, and offers something different for this list. Whether you need to do some work at the end of a Market day (tech friendly...it’s even in the name!), or you want to enjoy some fine cheese and unique wines, this laid back place offers it all. And since we are loving bourbon barreled wine right now, happy to see that on the list along with a diverse selection from South Africa. And did we mention the wine dispensers? Very cool!
Lulu & Blue: So bourbon flights are a thing (you’ll see more below), and you can try some unique ones each Friday night at this Italian inspired kitchen and bar. Along with a very strong selection of Italian wines and some creative craft cocktails, you’ll find us here at some point during Market.
913 Whiskey Bar (and Southern Kitchen): 20 different whiskey flights for all tastes, including for beginners. Not to mention over 200 liquors including rare whiskey, scotch & bourbon, and cocktails with names like Scrub-A-Dub-Dub and The Blues Traveler! Unique experience and something for everyone’s tastes.
Dram & Draught: Self-described as “a place for the whiskey fanatic, the craft beer fan, the cocktail enthusiast, the wine tipper and more”. Well, that about covers it all, right? Here you have the option to create your own whiskey flights, but what is most impressive is their selection of NC liquors - from Social House Vodka (Raleigh) to TOPO Whiskey (Chapel Hill).
1618 Midtown: The downtown location is awesome too, but we like the vibe of midtown for a cocktail. While we don’t always fall for naming drinks, these guys had us rolling with “Penicillin” and “Surfer on Acid”. But don’t be fooled by the foolishness, they take their drinks seriously.
Fair Witness Fancy Drinks: Brand new, dog-friendly, and it has fancy drinks in its name! What we love most is the bartenders willingness to talk things out and make you something you’ll enjoy based on your tastes. Plus, they are doing some fun things with old classics. So borrow a dog and go enjoy something different!
Vintage Sofa Bar: We LOVE the design of this place! But we all know décor gets us only halfway (maybe three quarters of the way) there...and in this case the libations take us the rest of the way. House syrups and fresh juices for the cocktails, and an in-house sommelier. You may find us here more than one night during Market!
Tate’s Craft Cocktails: While this spot is hip and innovative, they are also incredibly respectful of old-school cocktails. Think speakeasy, but maybe sprinkle in some guys in skinny jeans. A plus to some (negative to others) is that there are no TVs to distract from enjoying the environment. Let the mixologist bartenders guide your journey with their cocktail magic!
If you take us up on these recommendations and enjoy a few cocktails, please remember to be safe. Uber and Lyft are all over the Triad, and taxis are never too far away. We want you to enjoy Market and the local area, but we want you to be safe more than anything!
